Landes de Gascogne Conservatory
Sanguinet
This museum offers you the chance to discover them through historical, economic, sociological, artistic and architectural trails. A schedule of visits allows you to discover each emblematic site or activity: the resin harvesting demonstration, the collection of paintings, the oyster hut...
Resin harvesting the old-fashioned way (gemmage)
At the Conservatoire des Landes de Gascogne, our gemmakers are professionals who are keen to share their know-how and bear witness to an activity that is emblematic of Landes culture.
They will show you the authentic gestures of resin production, and plunge you into the heart of traditional Landes society. During a one-and-a-half-hour tour, you'll also learn about the names and uses of products made from resin.
A collection of 120 paintings from 1800 to the present day
The Landes de Gascogne's exceptional natural heritage and the play of light that envelops it invite you to take a stroll. Why not explore it by walking back in time in the footsteps of painters?
The exhibition of paintings in this museum (Galerie Jean Dubos) recounts the spirit of the Landes de Gascogne and allows you to delve deeper into its history. Whether you're a fan of Romantic painting or modern artists, whether you're drawn to the mysteries of the forest or the magic of coastal landscapes, you'll find plenty to stir your emotions.
A reconstructed oyster concession
For the first time in the history of the Bassin d'Arcachon, an authentic oyster shack destined for demolition has been saved by the association Conservatoire Patrimonial du Bassin d'Arcachon and Les Amis du Conservatoire des Landes de Gascogne in Sanguinet. Dismantled at the Port of La Teste-de-Buch, it was reassembled in 18 months at the heart of the Conservatoire des Landes de Gascogne site in Sanguinet. It represents the symbolic heritage element of the Pays de Buch within a park that includes buildings typical of other Landes de Gascogne "countries".
The regional quarter saved and reassembled in situ
You can discover it after your visit. It already includes a barn, a dwelling house and a bread oven.
